A LITTLE CLARITY
Your gifts. Your choices.
How GiftDetector uses your information and recommends products.
What we save
When you sign in with ChatGPT, GiftDetector uses a site-specific account identifier to keep your gift conversations, lists, recipient details, and notes together. Your account name is used for display. Search history and lists stay saved until you delete them.
Previously saved browser favorites are moved to your account the first time you sign in. The old browser copy is removed only after that move succeeds.
Free searches and guest visits
You can use 3 free guest searches per day. Signing in raises the allowance to 5 total per day, including guest searches made in that browser. Follow-up requests count as searches. Daily allowances reset at midnight UTC; the app shows that time in your local timezone. No application or paid subscription is required.
A secure, essential browser cookie connects guest conversations to a random visitor identifier. Guest conversations are stored for up to 7 days and are removed during a later cleanup. The first account you sign in with can claim that browser’s guest conversations. Signed-in gift history stays until you delete it. Clearing cookies loses access to unclaimed guest history.
Every live AI search requires a Cloudflare Turnstile check. Cloudflare processes browser and device signals to help distinguish visitors from automated requests. GiftDetector validates the response before calling OpenAI. Usage records also enforce browser, account, and site-wide limits. They are separate from gift history, so deleting conversations or switching accounts does not reset an existing browser allowance.
Earlier test applications are no longer used for access. If you submitted one, sign in with that email to export or delete it from your account.
When AI is involved
When live AI is enabled, your current gift request and a limited amount of conversation history are sent to OpenAI to research and recommend gifts. Avoid including addresses, payment details, or sensitive information about the recipient. Web queries are instructed to use interests and gift requirements, rather than personal identifiers.
GiftDetector requests that OpenAI not store the response as a retrievable conversation. Provider processing and retention are governed by its own policies. If AI is disconnected or a provider request fails, the app labels recommendations as curated matches.
Sources and prices
Some gifts are curated from retailer listings; others are found through AI web research. Product details show source links and the date they were collected. A source link does not mean we have tested the item or independently verified stock. Prices may change, and may exclude tax or shipping. Confirm the exact product, current price, and delivery with the retailer.
Sharing a shortlist
A sharing link exposes the products in that list to anyone who has the link. It does not include your recipient details, list notes, or conversations. Account list links can be turned off from the list. Individual gift links and copied product selections contain public product identifiers and cannot be revoked.
How we earn
Some retailer links may be affiliate links. When a link is monetized, its product details disclose that we may earn a commission if you buy through it. Direct links are labeled separately. Affiliate information is not supplied to the recommendation model and does not determine ranking.
We count searches, provider failures, and retailer-link opens to understand how the service works. These aggregate counts do not establish sales or revenue. We also keep short-lived account usage counters to limit automated or excessive searches.
Your controls
Delete individual conversations or lists at any time. The account page lets you export your gift data or delete it, including sharing links. Aggregate activity counts and short-lived abuse-prevention counters are separate from your gift history.
